Favorite Fragrances of 2015!

Hi Makeup Maniacs!  I'm sorry I've been Missing In Action from the blog scene.  With holiday shopping and preparing for Christmas, it has been a very busy season for me.

Since this year is almost over, I wanted to point out a few of my favorite fragrances for 2015.  I've been enjoying these and wanted to hear your thoughts on them too.  So without futher ado, lets's start with...

Unconditional Love

This is a wonderful scent by Philosophy. It's sweet, but not overwhelmingly sweet.  It has floral hints, and is both comforting and feminine.

Noir Tease

This is a sexy scent sold by Victoria's Secret.  It's perfect for date nights, because it is flirty and fun.  It has hints of pear and vanilla, which I love.

Sofia by Sofia Vergara

You can actually pick this scent up at Walmart or at a drugtore, but it is so warm and exquisite. There are hints of blackberries and plum that make it so inviting.

If you have tried these fragrances, please let me know what you think of them in the comments section.  Also, let me know what your favorite scents for 2015 were.

Sephora VIB Rouge Sale!

Makeup Maniacs, can you believe that it's that time of year again?  The Sephora VIB Rouge Sale begins on Friday, November 6, 2015!  And I'm obviously excited!

What are you going to buy with your 20% off promo code?  Let me know in the comments section below.

Here are 3 items that are on my "wish list":

The Marc Jacobs Shameless Bold Blush in "Reckless" which is described as a cool rosy pink.
I have several Marc Jacobs products and they are truly wonderful.  I haven't tried any of the blushes, so I figured, why not try them while I can get them on sale.  Currently, these blushes are $30 each.

Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in "Requiem" which is a soft lilac color.  I think I'm the only beauty lover that has yet to try these lippies.  Everyone on YouTube raves about them. I absolutely love Kat Von D's eye shadow palettes, so naturally, I think this is something that would be great to try while I can get a little price break. These usually are $20 each.
The University Eye Palette by Bobbi Brown.  This is gorgeous, there is just no other reason for wanting it, LOL!  The colors are right up my alley and I'm sure that Bobbi Brown quality will be evident in each one.  This sucka is $60.  Having 20% off will surely help me feel a little less guilty for purchasing this luxury item.

Hope you enjoyed seeing some goodies that are on my wish list. Don't forget to tell me what you will be picking up in the comments section.  And if you love beauty, come join me on my beauty YouTube channel, Mel's Makeup Mayhem!

Tastykake Minis!

Makeup Maniacs, on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 I received a special package in the mail.  It was from Influenster and it contained some delicious treats from the popular brand "Tastykake"!  The items were sent to me for testing purposes only.  The opinions are my own (well, actually the opinions are that of my children).

Tastykake is now selling mini versions of their delicious cakes.  The box we received contained the Tastykake Peanut Butter Flavored Minis!  Plus, there were some other goodies in the package.

There was a thunderstorm happening outside, so my kids ate these treats in celebration of being dry and out of the rain.  Come see what was in the box and hear what my kids thought of the Tastykake Peanut Butter Flavored Minis:

Face of the Day

How are you Makeup Maniacs doing out there?  Today, I want to show you the items I'm wearing on my face to achieve this classic look.  I also want to tell you about a few of my favorites.

Let's start with the L'Oreal Revitalift Oil-Free Miracle Blur which is my absolute favorite face primer.  It smooths fine lines, minimizes pores, and helps my foundation last long.  If you haven't tried this stuff, you should.

Another favorite is a new product that is a collaboration between Becca Cosmetics & the famous beauty blogger, Jaclyn Hill.  It's the Shimmering Skin Perfector in "Champagne Pop",  This gorgeous highlighter is perfect for any skin tone.  I put a little of this on my cheekbones, forehead, chin, and on the bridge of my nose.

The next item I'm wearing is by MAC and it's Ruby Woo! This is a classic, blue-toned red, matte, lipstick that is sure to make any woman feel glamorous.

Lastly, I wanted to tell you about the Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum in Ultra Black.  This is a long-wearing, water-resistant product that lines the eyes effortlessly.  I love to use this eyeliner to achieve the purr-fect cat eye.

In the comments section, let me know what some of your favorite makeup products are!

My Top 5 Summer Essentials (2015)

Hi Makeup Maniacs!  It's Mel and I'm back with a new post.  Today, I want to let you know about five (5) products I've been using on a consistent basis this summer.

Product #1 is the CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30.  This is something I'm wearing underneath my makeup (prior to priming) so that my face is not only moisturized, but protected from the sun's harmful rays.  This moisturizer is rich in ceramide and has ingredients that nourish the skin.  And of course it's UVA/UVB protection combats sun damage that causes skin to age quickly.  I just use a small amount of this all over my face & neck.  It has no strong, distinct scent and does not slide all over my face.  Most importantly, it doesn't make me feel sweaty and greasy, which is an issue for me when I use regular sunscreens.  If interested, purchase here:  http://amzn.to/1VB58as

Product #2 is Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Sunless Tanning Mousse.  Mine is in "Light" but they also have a "Dark" version too.  This has been so helpful in keeping my legs from looking like they've never seen daylight.  Now that I'm older, tanning the traditional way is pretty much out of the question.  Once per week I slather this stuff on my legs.  I start by showering and while in the shower, I use a body scrub to exfoliate the skin.  After I'm clean, I dry myself and then spread this stuff on my legs.  It spreads quickly and evenly.  Instantly, I see some color appear.  This stuff dries in one minute.  Sixty seconds and done.  The color will last a few days.  There is a very light scent, but compared to other sunless tanners, this stuff is virtually odorless!  For more info, click here:  http://amzn.to/1SEBCfN

Product #3 is my EOS Lip Balm in Strawberry Sorbet.  Did you know that EOS is short for Evolution of Smooth?  And that's just what this stuff does - smooth out your lips!  This has been under any other lip product that I've worn this summer.  It's organic and 100% natural. It's formulated without parabens and is free of petrolatum.  Plus, it smells & tastes great!  What is there not to like?  You can purchase it here:  http://amzn.to/1TU9dVI

Product #4 is Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish in Grape Gatsby.  I absolutely love any color in the "purple" family, but this beautiful, lilac shade has been a go-to for me this summer!  It's supposed to have 7 benefits in one bottle.  All I can say is that it has made my life easier.  I use two (2) coats of this stuff and I'm done!  It is the base coat, color, and top coat all in one.  Plus, the color lasts about 4 days with no chips!  For me, that's awesome!  Check it out here:  http://amzn.to/1SEDUM5

And, last, but not least, product #5 which is Pura d'Or Pure Organic Argan Oil.  It's natural, it's USDA certified organic.  This is something I use all over my body. It's great for skin, nails, and hair. Sometimes I use this in place of moisturizer, but EVERY time I wash my hair, I'm massaging at least 2 pumps of this stuff into my damp hair & scalp.  It seals in the natural moisture and prevents frizziness.  In the Florida humidity, this stuff is the key to flawless locks!  Purchase this amazing product here:  http://amzn.to/1fpmGWi

And that is it for my top 5 summer essentials! Let me know in the comments section (down below) what products are must-haves for your summer months.  And don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel Mel's Makeup Mayhem! for more information, reviews, beauty hauls, and more!

Foundation Battle: Too Faced "Born this Way" vs. Maybelline "Super Stay Better Skin"

Makeup Maniacs, in an effort to find my holy grail of foundations, I recently tried two that were quite similar in consistency and coverage.  Let the battle begin...

In the "high end" corner we have a Too Faced product that was recently launched.  This foundation is dubbed "Born this Way".  The day it launched, I paid $39 for one (1) ounce of this medium to full coverage liquid makeup.  The color I chose is called, Warm Nude, which matches me well, although I could have went a shade darker.  This formula is oil-free and infused with coconut water, alpine rose, and hyaluronic acid which are all ingredients that are supposed to improve texture and brighten the skin.

The company claims that this foundation gives medium to full coverage, is undetectable and will leave the skin naturally radiant.  I agree that it is medium to full coverage, but that's about all I agree with.  I feel like it kinda floated on my skin, not blending well at all.  It also made my fine lines more noticeable.  Prior to even setting this foundation with a light, loose powder, it began looking cakey. I'm not quite sure what the deal is with this stuff, but in my humble opinion, it was not worth the 39 bucks!

Pros:  it has medium to full coverage and has lots of great, natural ingredients

Cons: high price point, does not blend well, accentuates fine lines, "cakey" appearance on skin, and has no sun protection factor (SPF)

In the "drug store" corner is another medium to full coverage foundation by Maybelline.  This one is called,  "Super Stay Better Skin".  One ounce set me back $11.99 at ULTA. My color is Natural Beige which matches me perfectly.  This foundation is oil free, has an SPF of 15, and is enhanced with Acytl-C, which is a durable form of Vitamin C (which is a pretty powerful anti-oxidant).

Maybelline claims that this is a medium to full coverage, long-wear foundation that will improve your skin's appearance the longer you wear it.  It's supposed to make spots less noticeable, improve dullness and uneveness and give you a brighter, more even skin tone.  Personally, I think Maybelline hit a home run with this product!  It does give medium to full coverage and after a week of using this, I felt as though my skin had a "glowier" appearance to it.  It sat so wonderfully on my face and blended like a dream.   My one complaint is that it does not last that long, especially in the summer heat.  It tends to slide off and need touch-ups quite often if you are exposed to humidity. However, I feel it's definitely worth trying, especially at the affordable price of $11.99!

Pros:  it has medium to full coverage, blends easily, has SPF, improves the look of skin, affordable price, and contains a powerful anti-oxidant (Vitamin C)

Cons:  does not fair well in heat/humid climates

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation

So, it's pretty safe to say that Maybelline won this battle with it's great, new foundation that is marketed towards all skin types.  If you've tried either of these foundations, let me know your opinions of them below, in the comments section.

Until next time...

Confessions from a Beauty Lover

Hi Makeup Maniacs!  Today I have a quick post.  I just wanted to vent about my obsession with beauty products.  Honestly, I don't spend hours in the mirror analyzing every nook and cranny of my mug, but I truly love trying different makeup and skin care brands on a regular basis.

I wake up every day excited to put a makeup look together with the latest in cosmetics.  I get happy when I'm able to match my "face" with my clothing.

This kind of enthusiasm has made me realize that, at the ripe age of 42, beauty is something I'd love to make a career.  I am now taking some online coursework and learning different makeup application techniques.  Eventually, I will take courses in a traditional, classroom setting.

I would love to get paid for making other women look and feel pretty.  I would love to assist with coming up with ideas for cosmetics companies.  I would love to write editorials for magazines or other blogs.

If you have any advice for me on how I can improve on this journey into the beauty field, please leave me a comment down below.

Thanks for listening...until next time

Pura D'or

Thanks for stopping by Makeup Maniacs! I wanted to give a quick shout out to a company that recently reached out to me....Pura D'or.

This company has been around for over 4 years. They have a small line of products and 95% of those products are made with organic ingredients.  These are handcrafted beauty products that are great for your body, mind, & spirit.

A company representative e-mailed me a month ago. I agreed to do an honest YouTube review of 3 full-sized products.  The company quickly sent me 4 oz. of their Organic Argan Oil, 16 oz. of their Premium Organic Argan Oil Based Hair Loss Prevention Therapy Shampoo, and 16 oz. of the Organic Solutions Healing Conditioner.

After using it for a few days, I completed my YouTube review & here it is...

I hope you enjoyed my review.  If you would like to hear more beauty product reviews, please subscribe to my YouTube channel to stay up to date with my videos.  'Til next time...

First Impressions ~ Pure Silk Raspberry Mist

Makeup Maniacs I am flat out loving the Pure Silk Raspberry Mist Shave Cream with Aloe!  I was sent a complimentary can of this fruity-scented goodness by Influenster via the Fresca Vox Box for testing purposes, but all opinions are my own.  For more information regarding Influenster please click here.

Now let me tell you why this stuff is great...

First off, this smells amazing!!

Secondly, it is super thick and provides a rich lather that helps me get a smooth shave.  This prevents nicks and cuts.

Third, because of the aloe that this product contains, I am left with silky skin once I am done shaving.
You can get 5 fluid ounces of this stuff for approximately $5 and it is well worth it.  If you are interested in trying this product, you can purchase it by clicking this link.

So, on a 5 star scale, with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best, I give this product 5 stars!  Go check it out for yourself!  If you've tried this already, please let me know your thoughts in the comments section.

If you love all things beauty-related, please subscribe to my YouTube Channel called Mel's Makeup Mayhem!  I do simple makeup tutorials, product reviews, and provide information about cosmetics all of the time.

My 42nd Birthday!

Today is May 6, 2015 and I turned 42 years old!  Makeup Maniacs, I am so grateful to have reached this ripe age.  However, there are times when I think I should be in a different place in my life.  More established.  More successful.  I believe this type of thinking is normal, and it keeps me growing as an individual.

I have always been a "day dreamer".  As a child I truly believed I would be famous one day.  At different stages of my life, I thought I'd do something great.  Win the Nobel Peace Prize.  Be the world's best child psychologist.  Be the author of the great American novel.
Although I never achieved any of the above "goals", I am quite accomplished.  I have a college degree.  I have two children who are healthy, polite, and do well in school.  I have a steady job, a loving husband, and an amazing extended family!

So, even though I have never won the Nobel Peace Prize, what I have and what I do is quite fulfilling.  Happy Birthday to me!

Revlis Cosmetics??

Have any of you Makeup Maniacs heard of Revlis Cosmetics?  This is a fairly new beauty company that is trying to get their name out to the public.

I first heard of this company via Twitter. The company followed me and I followed back.  Shortly after following, I read a tweet asking bloggers to contact the company if they were interested in reviewing their products.  Well, of course, I was curious and did not want to pass on the opportunity to receive free cosmetics so I contacted the company. I wrote an email stating that I would LOVE free products from Revlis in exchange for my honest review on my blog.

The company’s owner, Kristin Turman, responded to my email fairly quickly. She was very professional and polite.  She attached a color chart and asked for my address so that she can send me some products to test.  She then explained that she was waiting for some pigments that may take 2 weeks to receive. She also stated that she would ”shoot you an email when I ship it”.

When about 3 and a half weeks went by with no email from Kristin, I decided to check in with her.  I told her that I was still interested in reviewing the products.  Kristin emailed me 2 days later stating that she had  “mailed it off a while ago”.

Although I knew I was getting brushed off, I wanted to believe that the products were just taking long to arrive to my home.  I get packages from the US Post Office, Fed Ex, and UPS ALL OF THE TIME, so certainly this package would show.

After another week, I knew I had to give up.  I kindly wrote Kristin another email:

Never received anything from your company, but thanks for considering me.
Sincerely,
Melissa Villanueva

She wrote back:  I’m sorry that it got lost in the mail :(

I’m a 40+ year old woman whose been around the block a few times.  I don’t buy it.  She originally said she would send an email once she mailed the products out, but that never happened.  I had to follow up with her and two days later she answers back stating she had already sent them off “a while ago”.  Hmm…when was “a while ago”?

I’m not trying to be mean or vindictive.  My issue is that since this ordeal, Revlis has tweeted multiple reviews by other bloggers who obviously received their items.  I am just frustrated and I feel deceived.  If my blog doesn’t have enough hits, perhaps I could have offered a YouTube review, as I have a YouTube channel which would have been FREE publicity for this company.

What do you all think?  Has a company ever did this to you?  Have you tried any of Revlis’ products?  Are they good?  Leave a comment below.

First Impressions ~ CIRCA Beauty Review

Makeup Maniacs, I was so excited when I recently went into my local Walgreen's store and spotted a brand new line of cosmetics!  Seems like Eva Mendes, the stunningly beautiful Cuban-American actress, is the Creative Director of CIRCA Beauty which is a makeup brand that is manufactured in the good ol ' U.S.A.

I bought 4 different items from the line: a mascara, an eyeliner, an eyeshadow palette (trio), and a lipstick!  Come check out my thoughts...

Top 10 Places to Purchase Makeup!

As a self-proclaimed Makeup Maniac, I am constantly looking for good deals when it comes to buying makeup.  Quality is obviously a huge factor as well.  This is why I decided to provide you all with information regarding great places to purchase makeup!
  • 10.     SIGMA BEAUTY http://www.sigmabeauty.com/ Sigma is well-known for it's beauty tools - specifically their brushes.  Personally, I own one Sigma face brush, the F80 Flat Kabuki.  It is great for blending liquid foundation unto the face.  However, Sigma's cosmetics are also of excellent quality!  Look at the "Sale" column of the website for great price cuts on some of their products.
  • 9.     BH COSMETICS http://www.bhcosmetics.com/ This is another company that has great quality cosmetics.  They have amazing sales from time to time where you are able to purchase items at 70-90% off the retail prices.  I have a few face palettes from this company and they are all great!
  • 8.     AMAZON Amazon.Com What can I say about Amazon?  You can basically find and buy anything on that website.  They do carry luxury beauty products, which includes makeup, as well as, skin care, health care, and bath/body items.  I have purchased some Lorac Cosmetics from Amazon.  I have also bought organization tools for my stash.  If you look on this site, chances are you will find a great deal on SOMETHING.
  • 7.     TARGET  http://www.target.com/ Target has certainly become a very popular store.  Target stores are known for their low prices and good customer service.  The health and beauty section is not too shabby either!  Each store carries an assortment of perfumes, skin care, and cosmetic lines.  What's awesome about Target is that you can pick up some Maybelline mascara one minute and a bathroom towel the next, Lol!  For great deals, always check items marked "Clearance".
  • 6.     E.L.F. http://bit.ly/1aNVtui The Eyes Lips Face website probably sells the most inexpensive beauty items that you'll find!  They carry everything from brushes, to cosmetics, and now they recently started a skin care line.  You can buy things for as cheap as a dollar - a freakin' dollar!!  E.l.f. products are now being sold in other stores like Walgreens and Target.
  • 5.     HAUTELOOK https://www.hautelook.com/ You have to be signed up to receive their e-mails, but Hautelook is awesome!  Each day at 8 AM Pacific, new sale events are started.  These events feature the best names in women's and men's fashion and accessories, beauty, kids' apparel and toys, and home décor at up to 75% off.  This is a company owned by Nordstrom, so you know they have good stuff!
Logo
  • 4.     WALGREENS http://www.walgreens.com/ Come on...everyone has a local Walgreens, right?  You can find some great deals on drug store makeup brands, such as, Maybelline, Loreal, and Revlon in this place!  With their Balance Rewards card you can sometimes buy makeup and rack up points that eventually convert to dollars that you can use on a future purchase!
  • 3.     CVS http://www.cvs.com/  CVS is another great pharmacy!  Most of them are super-sized and jam-packed with everything from soup to nuts.  However, I'm usually there for the MAKEUP!  (duh)  The Extra Care card is their "rewards" system and when you sign up for this bad boy, expect to receive lots of discounts, coupons, and CVS Bucks that you can use to buy more cosmetics! (Or anything else they sell)
  • 2.     ULTA http://www.ulta.com/  Ulta is another great beauty store.  This place is really good for those who like drug store brands, as well as, high end makeup brands.  Some stores even have salons and provide waxing services.  Each store carries an assortment of goodies for women that have different budgets.  The chain also has a rewards program where you gain a point for every dollar you spend.  You can then redeem points on anything, at any time!  Can you say, "More, please"?
Sephora
  • 1.     SEPHORA http://www.sephora.com/ And, finally, we reach what I believe to be the NUMBER ONE store for purchasing makeup...Sephora!!  This place is like Disney World for beauty lovers!  It has walls of fragrances, shelves filled with skin care, and different kiosk type areas filled with items from specific, higher-end, makeup companies.  This is where I personally love to browse and shop frequently.  Sephora does have it's own rewards program called the Beauty Insider.  There are 3 levels to this program.  You will earn points for every dollar you spend and then you are able to spend those points on product rewards.  These rewards are usually in the form of deluxe sized samples.  You also receive a free birthday gift every year, and you get access to special events and products.  The Beauty Insider is the first step.  The VIB status, the second step, is unlocked once you spend $350 within a calendar year.  And I am actually at the highest form of Beauty Insider, which is the VIB Rouge, which means I spend 1k or more per calendar year at the store...YIKES!
Well, my friends, I hope you've enjoyed reading about what I think are the Top 10 Best Places to Purchase Makeup.  In the comments section, please let me know where you go to buy your goodies.  And as always, don't forget to check me out on Mel's Makeup Mayhem!
