Makeup is so PERSONAL

This blog post was inspired by a recent conversation I had with my bestie.  We were talking about makeup and I totally recommended a Physician's Formula product.  She proceeded to explain that she did not like Physician's Formula because the colors do not show up well on her skin.  In her opinion, the colors were not pigmented enough.  I really like Physician's Formula so I was like WHAAAT??  But then I realized, "Makeup is so personal".
Like some women totally swear by MAC products.  I see MAC all over YouTube.  However, I am sure there are plenty of women (and some men too) that despise the brand.  I, for one, have never tried anything from MAC, although I am leaving my options open.
So why is makeup such a personal thing?  Well, just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, makeup's pros and cons are in the eye of the wearer.  What may work for one person, may not work for another.
For instance, not everyone can get away with wearing the dark, smokey eye and with a light, pale lipstick.  How would you feel wearing that look?

And not everyone likes liquid foundation.  I just started experimenting with different liquid foundations after a 12 year love affair with Bare Minerals Original Foundation.  I still prefer its staying power and matte finish to that of any liquid foundation.  However, it is still good to continue experimenting because perhaps one day I will find a new, compelling contender.
What are some of your favorite makeup products?
